Good morning 👋
I've been meaning to post some more videos for a while now.
Not in a vague "I should really do that one day" kind of way. I've actually planned them out. Written notes. Thought about what I'd say. In my head, it's practically done.
And yet. Here we are. No videos.
My current excuse is that we're in the thick of tax year end work and everything's busy. Which is true. But honestly? That's not really it…
The real reason is that filming feels harder than the day-to-day work. Less comfortable. Less familiar.
So the day-to-day work wins every time, because it's right there and it needs doing and nobody's going to judge me for doing it.
I'm telling you this because I think you might recognise the pattern.
Not with videos necessarily (or maybe?).
But with your finances.
Maybe you've thought about sorting your pension out. Or getting proper advice. Or just sitting down and looking at where you actually stand.
You might even have a rough plan in your head. You know it matters. You're not ignoring it exactly. You're just... not quite getting round to it.
And there's always a reasonable explanation. Work's busy. The kids need something. You'll do it after the summer. After Christmas. After the next big project lands.
But underneath the reasonable explanation, there's usually something else going on.
It feels unfamiliar. You're not sure where to start. You're worried you might get it wrong.
Or you just don't know what "getting it sorted" actually looks like in practice, so it's easier to leave it for another week. Or three.
None of that makes you bad with money. It makes you a normal human being who finds it easier to do the thing that's right in front of them than the thing that's important but slightly daunting.
The difference between the people who eventually get their finances in order and the people who keep meaning to?
It's not knowledge, or discipline, or some special talent for spreadsheets.
It's usually just one small move. A conversation. An email. A decision to stop waiting for the perfect moment and just start from where you are.
I still haven't filmed those videos. But I will. Probably not today. And when I do, they won't be perfect. But in my heart I know that'll be fine.
If your version of "the videos" is your financial plan, maybe this is the week you do something small about it. Even if it's just replying to this email and saying "I don't know where to start."
That's a perfectly good place to start.
Have a great week 😎
